Stop At: Signal Hill Observatory Platform, Jalan Bukit Bendera, Kota Kinabalu Malaysia

The Signal Hill Observatory Tower happens to be the highest point within the city from where you can get bird’s eye view of the entire surrounding area. It is especially worth watching the sunset from this point as the views are simply stunning. You can walk up to the hill or even hire a taxi to reach the top. Even though, there is nothing much in the place except the observatory but, it acts as a nice relief away from the busy city life. You can also make an early morning trip to witness the sunrise from the top.

Stop At: UMS Mosque, Jalan UMS, 88400 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia

a contemporary Islamic architecture. Perched on a hill and right on the campus of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), the majestic UMS Pink Mosque has attracted locals and tourists alike.

    Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Handicraft Market, Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen, Kota Kinabalu Malaysia

You will be spoilt for choice with miles and miles of beautiful sarongs and pareos, an ideal reminder of your tropical holiday in Sabah! Be sure to also check out the glistening and gorgeous pearl jewellery and handicrafts while you are there.

The best thing about the Handicraft Market is that you never know what piece of treasure you might unravel during your visit. Some have returned home with an authentic sompoton (a traditional wind instrument), a Murut headhunter’s blowpipe, a coconut-shaped handbag and a wooden-frog that ‘sings’ when you stroke its back with a wooden stick.

    Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Aquarium & Marine Museum, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah., Jalan UMS, 88400 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia

Though sea covers 71% of Earth’s surface, scientists say we know our Moon better than our ocean. But there’s a mysterious but beautiful garden down below, a world which has no human settlement. Sabah is lucky as part of Coral Triangle (a.k.a. Amazon of the Sea) thriving with over 600 coral and 2,000 reef fish species. The Aquarium & Marine Museum of University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) lets us explore our ocean world without getting our hair wet.
